Hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication lacks proofreading and exists as quasispecies in chronically infected individuals. Mutations influence natural history and response to treatment. Whereas the epidemiology of drug resistance (DR), basal core promoter (BCP) and pre-core stop (PC) mutations are well-characterized in adults, little is known about their distribution in children.
