Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) typically occurs in persons who are overweight or obese and have metabolic risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Yet a proportion of patients do not have these risk factors. Using the NASH CRN database, patients with NAFLD despite normal weight were identified and further investigated for their specific clinical features, metabolic risk factors, response to therapy and PNPLA3 genotype.
