The TONIC [Treatment of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in Children] Trial assessed vitamin E and metformin as treatments for NAFLD in children. NAFLD is associated with alterations in lipid metabolism; including increased apoB lipoproteins measured by non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (Non-HDLC) and increased lipid oxidation measured by oxidized low density lipoprotein (OxLDL). This study sought to evaluate changes in non-HDLC and OxLDL in relation to changes in liver histology in children in the TONIC trial.
