Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is often associated with liver enzyme abnormalities. Recently, we and our colleagues completed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in large unselected populations and identified many single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are associated with levels of liver enzymes (Chambers et al, Nat Genet, 2011). In this study, we evaluated the association of these SNPs and relevant genes with the presence and histological severity of NAFLD.
