Abstract

The relationship between HFE gene mutations, body iron stores and NASH pathophysiology remains controversial despite numerous studies. Most previous reports had several limitations including small sample size, lack of uniform criteria for the diagnosis of NASH and lack of a standardized liver histological scoring system for NASH and iron deposition.
