Are you a student, or do you know any students, who are doing research in NIDDK fields such as diabetes, kidney, digestive, obesity, metabolic, liver, endocrine, urology, nutrition or hematology diseases?

The 2026 dkNET Summer of Data Student Program provides students an opportunity to utilize the dkNET tools and resources in a research project. Students will learn foundational concepts and gain hands-on training in data management, FAIR data, rigor and reproducibility, and data science. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your research journey!
  • 7-8 week program, June 22 to August 14, 2026
    • Week 1 (June 22-26, 2026): Online bootcamp (4-5 hrs/day, 9 am -2 pm PT)
    • Week 2-8: Weekly conference call & discussion (2-3 hrs/week)
    • Complete a brief end of program report and a survey
  • Students from current undergraduate to graduate education who are currently working in a research lab or who will work in a research lab during summer 2026 may apply
  • No programming skills or bioinformatics background are required
  • $500 scholarship award opportunity
  • Application due April 13, 2026
  • Please note that only domestic students that are citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States are eligible to apply to the program
The program is designed for both bench and bioinformatics scientists. Preferences will be given to those research projects in the areas of focus for NIDDK including diabetes, obesity, nutrition, digestive, kidney, liver, urologic, endocrine, metabolic, bone, and blood diseases.
